Weekly Brew: A Prayer Through the Wind

This morning’s harsh, March wind is pounding helplessly at our windowpanes, crashing through the newly budding tree limbs, and recklessly knocking over anything in it’s way.  The springtime cold snap has officially shoved it’s way through.

Just a few days earlier we were riding bikes in the warm sunshine, awing at the freshly blooming daffodils and pear blossoms, and reading books out on the patio – no barraging wind, no chill in the air.

That’s a Midwest March for you, isn’t it? 🙂

Along with the mighty wind, my morning was accompanied by a reminder of God’s promises in John 16:33.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

John 16:33 (NIV)

I’m not sure what troubles I might encounter today. Small aggravations or unfathomable disaster? I don’t know what might or might not beat against me senselessly, like the wind. I can’t see ahead if there might lie feelings of anger, jealousy or pride in my own heart that might snap the limbs of the work set before me that was previously blossoming.

But God, this morning, please hear my prayer that rests on your sweet promise:

No matter what comes my way today, please be near to me and equip me for your good work that you have so carefully laid out for me to do. Stay through the “harsh, cold winds” of my life, and keep me safe in your love and promise – that you have truly overcome all.

Amen.
