Healthier, Homemade “Hamburger Helper”

Any others out there who occassionally crave those easy, boxed meals that are ready in ten minutes?

Me too!

With our family’s crazy schedule, we needed something quick, easy, and better-than-boxed! 😀

I use gluten free noodles, so the cooking time may vary depending on the pasta you choose. I love that the ingredients in this can easily be subbed out for what you like. Also, the “hamburger” is actually ground turkey, so it’s even a little more heart-healthy. What’s not to love? This is a make again and again recipe in our house now.

Healthier, Homemade “Hamburger Helper”

Ingredients:

1 lb. ground turkey
1 tsp. poultry seasoning
1 1/2 tsp. salt, divided
8 oz. Rotini style pasta (I used a gluten free brown rice and quinoa pasta)
1 c. water
1 c. milk
1/4 c. sour cream
1 Tbsp. parmesan cheese
1/2 c. shredded cheddar cheese

In a deep skillet, cook the ground turkey on medium high heat until crumbling and cooked through. Add 1 tsp. of salt and the poultry seasoning.

Add the pasta, water, and milk. Bring the mixture to a boil. Boil for five minutes, then cover. Simmer on low heat for five to seven more minutes. (This is where your cooking time can vary, based on pasta!)

Remove from heat and slowly stir in the extra half tsp. of salt, sour cream, and cheeses.img_4054

Serve up and enjoy! This could generously serve four. We had leftovers! 😀
